Here are seven new figures to start this new range off with. The first set are in patrolling poses and wearing bush hats and belt order. Yemeni hill tribesmen, as well as Glengarry and beret wearing British troops are planned.
Some in-progress shots:
|
Bending up the armatures. |
|
Dollies being built up. |
|
Dollies cast, arms being added.
Just a little background: Between 1962-1967 tribesmen in the ungovernable mountainous areas of South Arabia (now modern Yemen) fought against British troops who were backed by artillery and who were also using helicopters to improve their mobility in the unforgiving terrain.
At the same time the port of Aden and in particular the town of Crater was the location of urban guerilla actions by Nationalist rebels against British troops and commercial interests.
These 28mm figures will be available from Eureka Miniatures, and are part of our Moderns range.

You're killing me Kosta!!!!! Yet ANOTHER period I'll have to take up!!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely work!
Cheers Greg!
DeleteThanks for the peek under the sculpting hood. I just get more impressed with each post.

Thanks very much Dave, glad that you found the blog.
Deletevery nice indeed.
ReplyDeleteThanks mate!
DeleteReally interesting seeing the sketches that go with the figures.
ReplyDeleteHi Kosta
ReplyDeleteI have a platoon. These are really super an d are getting the shirt sleeve light fighting kit look. I look forward to some more variations and support weapons and vehicle crew, any chance of some of the range in berets as well? Would be really useful to extend for UN contributions, the Rhodesian mission and other actions in the long withdrawal from East of Suez. Just as well that the AK has not changed too much but some opposition with bolt action rifles and conversion kit from Somalis and others would be really useful.

Hi Graham,
DeleteThanks very much, I'm really glad that you like the miniatures. I am planning to add more sets to this range, including some in berets, and eventually some Yemeni guerillas with rifles and wearing their traditional dagger.
No timeline on when you can expect them, though, as I need to round out some of the other ranges first, before I can push ahead with more Aden stuff, but this period has very much piqued my interest.
Wonderful! I really liked being able to see the sketches along with the sculpting process too. I am very happy to see more of the less known conflicts being developed. I am a huge fan of the Rhodesian Bush Wars minis you've done already. This will be one more area of interest I'll be getting into. Magic, Kosta!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! This is a very overlooked conflict and as I've already said, you can expect this range to expand in the near(ish) future.
ReplyDeleteI started doing the sketches as way of maintaining a consistent size to the miniatures and work out all the poses in a set. Now it's always my first step when beginning a range.
Hello Costa, Happy Birthday to Me - Brilliant! I have been waiting to do an Aden Tour campaign with Northumberland Fusiliers and Mad Mitch's Jocks forever. These are exactly the right figures. How do I get hold of them please? Yours aye, Rusty.
ReplyDeleteHiya Rusty,
DeleteThis set is not officially released yet, meaning that it may not be available yet from our overseas partners Eureka USA and Fighting 15's (in the UK).
You can, however, Drop Nic an email here at Eureka Miniatures Australia:
http://www.eurekamin.com.au/
...and he should be able to arrange something.
Glad you like the miniatures!
Hi Kosta I have bought a shed load of these figures to make into early war (Rhodesian Bush War) from 1966 - 1969 as they are perfect for RAR, RLI, RR, BSAP, PATU, INTAF etc etc. This was the general kit worn by the Rhodesian Army and BSAP during this period with 44 webbing. I have just painted up a platoon of RAR in this kit, see my blog. Rhodesian War Games. I am now looking to find loose weapons such as FN, MAG, 303s and police shot guns. We could also do with loose AKs, RPDs, SKS, RPG7, etc etc as weapons packs. All the best and keep up the good work. John Hop
ReplyDeleteAny sign of the Glengarry wearing ones?
ReplyDeleteHi Adrian, I'm working on the glengarry cap set at the moment, so they're not too far away.
DeleteKosta, how did you get on with the Glengarry troops? Been 3 months now.
ReplyDeleteHi Adrian,
DeleteJust finishing the last details, and will post them in the next couple of days. I have been distracted with a couple of side projects.
Great news, looking forward to these.
